Birdie-Bread

We cannot take credit for this recipe.  Unfortunately we don’t know who to give credit to at this time!  We were next to a great lady with beautiful canaries at the July 25th fair and she gave us the recipe.  I am adding this to the website from work, and her card with her name on it is… At home…  I will give credit where credit is due asap!  We’ve made a few tweaks to this and we encourage you to do the same.  Our finches stared at it for about 5 minutes, then it was game-on!  We hope yours will like it too!

Ingredients:

2 eggs

* 1 box cornbread mix

* ½ cup of bird seed

* 1 cup of corn (make sure you use the ‘no sodium added’

  version)

* 1 jar baby food (sweet potato and carrot were

  recommended, use any flavor you’d like)

* 1/4th cup crushed nuts (no sodium added, the type you find

  in the baking section are usually au natural, be sure to

  check the package)

Preparation:

* preheat oven to 350’

* break the eggs open as clean as possible, rinse shells and

  place on baking sheet in oven for 5 minutes to dry them

* place dried shells in a large mixing bowl, crush with a hard

  surface (we use the bottom of a drinking glass)

* add all other ingredients to the bowl and stir

* pour into bread pan, and bake at 350’ for 30-40 minutes.

  The bread will rise a little.  Use a toothpick to make sure

  it’s cooked thoroughly.

That’s it!  It will smell so good you’ll want to eat it too!
