QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS:

Q – Do you ship your birds?

A - Absolutely.  We use Delta Pets at the buyer's expense.  We ship from Cleveland, Ohio and temperatures have to be between 60'-85'.  Because there are only a certain planes that are able to carry live animals, shipping schedules may be very early or late.  Birds must have someone at the airport available for pickup as soon as they land and must be transferred into proper quarantine immediately for best results.  Also we are willing to meet within a reasonable distance for a small fuel fee.  Always, you are welcome to come pick-up at our home where you can see all of our birds.

Q – Do you have any quarantine recommendations?

A - When bringing home new birds, we advise a strict quarantine. There is always a possibility one or more of the birds could be a carrier for an illness your existing birds may not have immunities for.  Even if the birds were healthy upon leaving the breeder, diseases can be transmitted during transport or may arise as a result of the birds’ elevated stress levels.  We recommend 30 days of quarantine in separate cages in separate rooms of the house. Take care of your existing birds first, and thoroughly wash your hands before tending to the new birds.  During this time, watch your new birds carefully for signs of illness like puffed feathers, soiled vents, runny eyes, etc.  If any of these symptoms arise, seek medical treatment from an avian veterinarian immediately.  Birds do not like to show they're ill, so by the time they display symptoms, they are usually very sick.  If the birds appear healthy and are adjusting fine, now is a good time to treat for airsac mites, scaly face and intestinal worms.  We like Iverlux and Worm Away by Morning Bird Products.  Also during quarantine would be a good time to treat with probiotics as they can negate the ill effects associated with the stress of the relocation.  Again, Morning Bird Products makes an excellent probiotic.  If after 30 days both your existing birds and the new birds seem to be healthy we then recommend bringing the quarantine cage into the same room as the existing bird(s) but still keeping them in separate cages for 14 additional days.  During the next 2 weeks the birds have the opportunity to hear each other and experience what their new surroundings will be, without actually being introduced into the new settings.  When it’s time to actually introduce the birds together spend a lot of time observing for signs of illness once again.  At this time we like to put all birds on probiotics once again as the introduction of the birds can stress them all out.

Q – Would you ever consider trading birds?

A - Possibly!  I'm always looking to expand my bloodlines and colors, so let me know what you have available, maybe we can make an exchange!

Q - Do you sell to brokers, or do you sell for resale?

A - No, Hobby Finch Ohio does not sell to brokers or individuals looking to re-sell birds. Due to the delicate nature of these finches we feel to expose them to a third party unnecessarily increases the risk to pick up illness and infection. It would be very hard to trace back the source of illness if birds went to a middle-man before going to their permanent homes.  If you know of someone who is looking for finches you do not currently have, put them in direct contact with us, and we will do the same for you. we'd rather have a working relationship with other breeders instead of a middle-man trying to profit from us.
